About meHello! I’m Ming Sun (孙铭), Assistant Professor at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, William & Mary.
My research centers on quantitative fisheries science, stock assessment, fisheries management, and marine ecosystem dynamics. I develop and apply statistical and modeling approaches to better understand population dynamics, evaluate management strategies, and inform sustainable use of marine resources. Growing up in the coastal city of Qingdao, China, I developed an early and lasting interest in the ocean and the challenge of balancing resource use with conservation. I am particularly interested in how human–ocean interactions vary across ecological systems and cultural contexts, and how quantitative tools can support evidence-based fisheries management. Outside of academia, I enjoy reading history, listening to music, and following sports. |
